Spring is the hardest season to get dressed for, IMO. Jackets. Sweaters. Tee shirts. It’s snowing. I’m sweating. My shoes are wet.

And every spring, I go through the same humiliation ritual: I stare at my closet, look at 47 pairs of pants, and think, “I have no pants!”

I have pants (47 pairs, didn’t you hear?), but I don’t want to wear any of them.

TLDR; I found my favorite pants, they’re on sale, and here are four of infinite ways to wear them — and I’d bet you have all of these pieces already in your closet.

Last year, I decided to end the drama. I tried on every pair and simplified. I am not a woman who thrives on pant variety. I am a woman who wants to get dressed in under three minutes and feel that magic put-together feeling every time. In winter, coats and scarves do the heavy lifting for an outfit. In spring, the pants and shoes have to.

That closet audit left me with three heroes: straight-leg blue jeans, barrel jeans, and black stretchy trousers (if you’re in the market for those, checkout as a guest and use code GEETHANKSxSPANX).

I didn’t toss the rest, but those three pairs went to the top of the pile and became my spring staples.

The straight and the black stretch? No notes, and importantly, no need for seconds. But I loved the barrel silhouette so much that once it took over last spring, I leaned in and let that be the “fun pant”.

I now own an irresponsible number of barrel pants from GAP. Drawstring waist. High-rise no-stretch. Every color. Multiple variations on leopard print. How many leopard pants does one millennial need? My closet says three. And I wear them all regularly.

When you find the pair, it’s honestly thrilling to buy them again and again, especially when they hit sale, as they have today.

A lot of people worry they’ll look like a clown in barrel pants, but everyone I see wearing them looks impossibly chic. The GAP pair (above) is cut so subtly that it’s a great place to start if you’re curious about the trend but nervous. No one is going to clock you and think, “Ah yes, her first day in barrel pants,” the way I’m convinced everyone on the subway can tell I don’t normally wear baseball caps when I decide to put one on.

I often get asked, “What do you wear with them?” Um, literally anything. They are pants! But the silhouette feels elevated and fashion-forward, so once you’re wearing them, it almost doesn’t matter what’s on top. The pants do a lot of the work. They signal that you’re current, that you’re paying attention. It goes a long way.

Skinny jeans are “out,” if that’s something you care about (and you truly might not!). But these specific GAP barrels still hit that one thing you may love about your skinnies: they’re high-waisted. I think people assume they have to sacrifice a high waist for jeans that have looser fit. Not here. These are still fairly form-fitting; they just have a gentle flare at the mid-leg and a taper at the ankle. The shape feels modern without making you look like you’re trying to be Gen Z, which I am not.

With enough prints and colors of the pants, plus a few sweaters, tees, jackets and rotating shoe options, I basically have endless outfits while wearing some version of the same thing. And I feel comfortable and confident head to toe every time. I don’t have to think about it or overhaul my closet each season, and I still stay true to my style and preferences. Each photo in this post is a version of an outfit I will wear with these pants. None of them are aspirational, or represent a version of me that doesn’t exist. And it’s the most put together I’ve ever felt.

I want to tell you something, and I’m going to be quick about it because it’s a Monday night, it’s the first nice day of the year in New York City, and there’s a closed laptop and Diet Coke at an outdoor table calling my name.

There are so many body washes in the body wash space, but this one called “3 nights in Madrid” from the brand Whereafter is the first one in a long while that made me do a double sniff. It’s great and long-lasting; I still get a whiff of it on myself hours after I shower. What I like about this one is that it doesn’t use plain water as the base. It uses aloe vera juice and chamomile hydrosol instead, which I didn’t even realize was a thing until I tried it. It just feels softer when it lathers, and my skin doesn’t have that tight, squeaky feeling after I rinse off. It’s a nice treat in a scent profile I really like, and the friends I shared it with like it too.

Hi Geezers,

I am not a “new year, new me” kind of person. I used to be, and it was so overwhelming that I had to force myself into a new New Year’s routine. It meant avoiding resolution chatter (especially about ~weight~ or ~fitness~), and it meant treating New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day like any other day. It was seriously a big boost to my mental health. I already get struck down in January with seasonal depression.

And let’s face it, this past January was extremely January…and I am so glad it’s over.

Here’s what I did last month instead: Instead of treating January like a reset button for my entire life, I treated it more like a soft assessment of what December did to me—my sleep, my bank account, and my hair—and figuring out what needed a little TLC. (All of it, turns out.)

My hair especially saw a lot of life and living in December. I was washing, heat styling, using insane amounts of product (not to mention trying lots of new things for gift guides and such). And I’ve been growing out what I lovingly refer to as my f*ck-ass bob. I love that haircut, and it will be back this summer. But it’s great in theory and high-maintenance in practice. Maintaining a bob meant seeing my hairstylist every two months like clockwork, which adds up quickly. I haven’t been back since September.

Growing it out has meant fewer haircuts, less precision, and a lot more figuring it out as I go. It’s also forced me to rely on the products I already have in my bathroom to keep my hair looking right and tight without the structure of a fresh cut. And since two things needed a big Q1 reset last month (hair, finances) I pushed my $200 haircut another five weeks and did some due diligence around repair. Heat, heavy washing, cold weather, friction from hats and scarves, dryness, styling. None of it dramatic on its own, but together? It shows. (And it was SHOWING.)

So I saved my two hundo and kept it simple. Two low-effort repair steps that actually fit into my real routine (and trying to only wash my hair 3x a week, which is a dramatic cutdown for me).

Now that it’s February, I can say confidently: after a full month of this, my hair looks really good, despite no haircut. Shinier, calmer, healthier.

Step one: a 60-second reset (no hyperbole)

Here’s what I noticed after using it consistently through January:

• Lightweight, not greasy: I could feel the difference immediately; it doesn’t coat my hair the way heavier oils do.

• Works on damp or dry hair: I used it post-shower to lock in moisture and tame early frizz, and also mid-day on dry hair to smooth flyaways without that gross, slick feeling. Loved the versatility.

• Really good for texture and frizz: My waves still have movement even after a few days of not washing.

• Hat weather approved: I kept it in my bag because January = constantly in a hat.

I usually spray a couple pumps into my hands, rub them together, and smooth through the mid-lengths and ends, avoiding my roots. It gives me a polished look without making me feel like I dumped a bottle of oil on my head. And honestly, the consistently-not-greasy part is the whole reason this stuck. That’s the thing that kept me coming back to it all month.

January didn’t need to be about becoming a different person. For me, it was about maintaining what I already have and choosing routines that feel calm, realistic, and sustainable. A month later, that approach paid off, especially where my hair is concerned.

It finally happened. After almost two years of avoiding every virus and every common cold (and even sharing a hotel room for a week last year with Nora when she had the flu), the bell finally rang for me.

I’ve been on my ass for the last five days, coughing, sneezing, sleeping, wailing at a higher power, etc. I missed my mom’s 70th birthday brunch, I missed an old friend’s visit to NYC, etc. I missed half of the Grammy Awards!

I still believe in Grüns, of course, and credit my long streak of good health to those little gummy bears. But New York in the dead of winter is no joke, and between subway rides and restaurants, and theaters full of sniffly people, it finally caught up with me. This flu season has been a rough one according to literally everyone, and now I know for sure: IT SUCKS.

Law and Order SVU: Always makes me feel warm and cozy inside (red flag?), but right now I am on a good streak with a season 11 rewatch. The episode where Sara Paulson (s11, e12, “shadow”) plays a spoiled heiress who murders her parents and then works overtime to evade Benson, Stabler and a random agent from the “Special Fraud Unit”? Incredible! Just excellent. Now imagine watching it with a little fever, hidden under 10000 blankets in the darkness of your living room.

I would much rather play from my couch and scream at the TV, which is exactly what I’ve been doing all week. Also, old doesn’t just mean the Bob Barker years. I love Drew Carey. He’s a real one. Soup: Highly recommend. Today’s was miso, yesterday I had ramen to clear my sinuses. It worked but then they clogged right back up. This jarred soup from Rao’s (Whole Foods has it) is good to have on hand. It’s a little saltier than Progresso, if we’re getting down to the nitty.

My favorite sleep mask: I’ve been sleeping during the day, and my Manta Sleep mask has come in clutch. I usually only break it out on long-haul flights, but it’s been perfect for sick days. It keeps all the light out, it’s adjustable, and I even have the little weighted eye inserts that keep everything cool and regulated.

Many say I will pull through this, but…jury’s still out. More later!

I don’t want competition over what should be the least popular bagel flavor); the nail salons; the plant shops and card and gift stores.

It’s the hardware store that’s been run by the same guy since 1989. He has a great laugh. He also makes fun of you for losing your keys because he’s made, conservatively, seven copies for you in the last four years.

These are the small places that quietly turn a collection of streets into a community. Hello! It’s Sesame Street!

The Locavore does an incredible job at documenting and stocking “an emporium of local goods, all grown/baked/created/pickled within 100 miles of New York City”.

Beware, it is easy to get lost in this site or her store.

I rang in the new year exactly how I wanted: in my PJs, on the couch, watching 20/20, and asleep by 8pm. Absolute bliss.

At 12:02am, I briefly woke up to the sound of fireworks going off in every direction, remembered what day it was, and promptly fell back asleep for another 7 hours. No regrets.

It’s freeeeeezing in New York City, but that didn’t stop me from driving up to Central Park this morning at 8am — a drive that would usually take 40–50 minutes but today took only 22 (which is why we did it). It snowed overnight so Lottie delighted, I tolerated for her happiness, and then I felt less bad about staying home the rest of the day to read Heart the Lover (a rec, and she’s right, it’s amazing) and intermittently nap on the couch while the Netflix fireplace roared.

But despite the holiday season wrapping up today, it seems no one is completely shopped out yet. In between snoozes, my group chats were full of my friends sending bags, clothes and shoes to each other for friend opinion and approval.

I wanted to show you this before-and-after: my skin in 2023 (please keep in mind I was also going through a divorce and deep in the fog of depression) versus my skin last week, December 2025.

In the “after” photo I’m wearing a little blush, lipstick, and some mascara, but that’s it.

I use my red light mask 5–6x a week for the full 10-minute session on a clean, dry, product-free face and I trusted the process. It’s honestly amazing what time and red light can do. You can still use my code GEETHANKS for a deal, and your skin will thank you in about 45 days.

• Naadam cashmere, because they were running a Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal and obviously I exercised zero restraint. I now own six cashmere sweaters.
• Framebridge, where I finally got multiple things framed that have been sitting in closets/drawers/piles for years. Also gifts.
• Hyperice Normatec compression sleeves for my legs, because I’m training for the 2026 NYC Marathon (!) and the deal I made with myself is that if I break my foot again, I’m out. But I’ll keep the compression.
• Paula’s Choice from Dermstore, using code GEETHANKS (we’ve been a Dermstore partner since 2021, and 2026 is going to be another great year with them. We love you, Dermstore!). At Scaachi’s recommendation, I’ve been using the toner on my butt and I am delighted to inform you my butt has never looked brighter or smoother.
• A $12 balaclava that is shockingly soft, comfy, and way better quality than it has any right to be, given where it’s from.
• Olaplex, because I will simply never pay full price for that. Ever.
• Blundstones for my brother for Christmas (he does not read this), and pasta-making accoutrement for my brother’s boyfriend.

This isn’t a hobby for me, it’s my livelihood, and the fact that you choose to support it, trust my recommendations, and shop through this community means more than I can ever fully explain. What makes it special isn’t just the shopping, it’s the people. The generosity, the curiosity, the thoughtfulness, and the way you all show up for each other constantly blows me away.

2025 was also the year we cut Amazon out by about 97%. I’ll still share the occasional link for those random, hard-to-find-anywhere-else things, but overall it was a big, intentional shift. We made that choice before we knew Flagship was shutting down, and while it did affect us financially, I truly believe it was the right decision in the long run. The right call for the business, for the community, and for how I want this whole thing to feel as a job.

Our $2 Thursday fundraising, the mutual support, the problem-solving in the comments of the Facebook group, the way people step in to help each other…that’s the best part of all of this. Always has been.

I’ve always said I’d stop doing this the moment it stopped being fun. Six years in, I can honestly say I’m still having the time of my life. And that’s because of you!

Last year my resolution was simple: take more photos. Because so much of my job is sharing products and sales, my “Remember This Day?” notifications from Apple were always slideshows of screenshots of…jeans. Or like, 11 versions of a close-up of a new moisturizer.

Not exactly what I feel pulled to reminisce about!

This year, though, I actually stuck with the resolution. I kept taking photos past February (when I usually fall off), and now my camera roll is full of the actual shape of my 2025 (want to skip ahead and see the deal? Scroll to the end!):

• January and February: Sunday beach trips with Lottie and my trip to Mexico with Nora
• March and April: Weekend trips out of the city with friends and seeing tons of shows. Also ran my first 5k!
• May, June and July: all Dilaria...all the time! And I broke my foot (worth documenting and remembering for sure! THUMBS UP!)
• August: My upstate adventure! Lottie living her best life, and me in the pool for 30 days straight. Tomato sandwiches, trips to the river, and reading books in the garden. (Take me back!)
• September and October: Out-of-town visitors, my 20th high school reunion, Vegas trips and enjoying the best NYC weather on offer
• Rounding out the rest of the year with: Holiday parties and end-of-year joy!

For once, I have a year’s worth of photos I want to display, which is why I’m turning 2025 into a gorgeous Mixbook. I cannot wait to flip through the printed pages, see the year laid out month by month, and actually hold all these memories instead of scrolling past them. I’m absurdly excited to leave it out on my coffee table, show it off when people come over, and enjoy the feeling of having documented a Very Fun Year!

Fishwife

The fancy tinned fish you bring to a dinner party to signal that you are fun but also have taste. These sets move fast and rarely get price cuts, and the caviar especially is such a fun treat for the price. Victoria Beckham

Top tier eyeliner that makes you look like you tried when you absolutely did not. Almost never on sale. If you have always wondered what the hype is about, this is your time. My friend Isabel told me Posh Spice “sells like 50 of these eyeliners every second.”

The swimsuits that feel athletic and hot at the same time. L.O.F. does not play the discount game. If you want a swimsuit for vacation, scoop it now. Remember; bathing suits don’t go on sale during bathing suit season. The best time to buy a coat is in July. The best time to buy a bikini is now.

Cle de Peau Concealer

Cle de Peau does not discount often and the concealer is usually excluded from promotions. I took the plunge after a rec from Lindsay Silberman of Hotel Lobby Candle. Dammit, Lindsay, I am addicted. It’s PERFECT.

Away

Away keeps things pretty quiet for most of the year. Their luggage holds up in a way that makes you mad at every suitcase you owned before. This sale is always the one to watch. The lifetime warranty is hard to beat. They’ve replaced my suitcase twice in the last 10 years; both reasons it needed to be replaced were my fault (one was my cat’s fault — OGs know). Will never travel with any other suitcase again.

Soft Services

I got this as a gift last Christmas and by the time I decided I loved it and wanted to recommend it there was no discount to be found. Anywhere. This is the first time I’ve seen it on sale (like beyond a welcome 10%) in 2025. Grab a buffing bar while you’re at it. Sloughs off skin like nothing else.

Ziip

The only microcurrent tool that can compete with a facial. Ziip runs one 20% off sale a year and this is it. Yes, my code GEEZIIP still works for 20% off and gets you 30% off gels, even bundles.

Snif

Great candles, great scents, and the only time you see the full sized favorites actually go on promotion. If you want a holiday candle that doesn’t smell like a mall, grab the pumpkin smash for 30% off. I have spent so much of my own money on this candle I am embarrassed by it. And I shop for a living.

AYR

AYR is allergic to discount culture. Their classic shirts and perfect jeans almost never drop in price. This is the rare moment where you get the good pieces for less.

Comfortable, beautiful flats that people hunt down secondhand because they hate paying full price.

Merit

Sabahs

Handmade leather shoes that basically have a cult following. Size up one full size in these (and read their size chart for more details). If you have a wider foot, get men’s. There’s no difference! I have…so many pairs in so many colors. They wear beautifully, and they NEVER smell. No, we don’t have to wear socks with them!

There are a lot of other great sales today. Old Navy and GAP are also pulling their weight with genuinely great basics (yes, these pants are a basic). That puffer coat and those soft sweaters are the real deal. Truly worth grabbing, and maybe grab an extra in a fun color and put it in the coat drive box in your town.
