Everything getting me through my absolute crash out
Not an exhaustive list, either.
Hey Geezers,
It finally happened. After almost two years of avoiding every virus and every common cold (and even sharing a hotel room for a week last year with Nora when she had the flu), the bell finally rang for me.
I’ve been on my ass for the last five days, coughing, sneezing, sleeping, wailing at a higher power, etc. I missed my mom’s 70th birthday brunch, I missed an old friend’s visit to NYC, etc. I missed half of the Grammy Awards!
I still believe in Grüns, of course, and credit my long streak of good health to those little gummy bears. But New York in the dead of winter is no joke, and between subway rides and restaurants, and theaters full of sniffly people, it finally caught up with me. This flu season has been a rough one according to literally everyone, and now I know for sure: IT SUCKS.
Here’s what’s been helping:
Law and Order SVU: Always makes me feel warm and cozy inside (red flag?), but right now I am on a good streak with a season 11 rewatch. The episode where Sara Paulson (s11, e12, “shadow”) plays a spoiled heiress who murders her parents and then works overtime to evade Benson, Stabler and a random agent from the “Special Fraud Unit”? Incredible! Just excellent. Now imagine watching it with a little fever, hidden under 10000 blankets in the darkness of your living room.
The Theraface: The most popular purchase of 2025, the Theraface depuffing wand has cold and hot settings. I started getting lots of messages about it after the holidays from people who said it was really helping with their sinuses, and late last night I remembered that, grabbed it, and started using the heat setting on my chapped nose. PERFECTION. You can still get it with code GEETHANKS.
Ditching tissues and using old, soft tee-shirts to blow my nose: Sorry if that’s gross but if this even helps one person survive cold and flu season I will consider it a win. Picture below. (Just kidding, I would never put a picture of that in here.) I was onto tissues for the first half of the week, but again, raw nose. Something had to change. This is how I know I am not one of God’s strongest warriors. I have gone full Man Flu.
A BFF for a low-wash hair week: If 2025 was rough on your hair (and...same), the Dove Intensive Repair Bi-Phase Serum + Oil was a very new year, new me-coded solution without breaking the bank or requiring a full overhaul in January. It helps smooth frizz, boost shine, and protect against dryness, and it’s light enough that I don’t have to worry about overdoing it and making my hair super greasy. I use it when my hair looks tired or when I’m too tired to do a full blow-out. Plus, it works on wet AND dry hair. Thanks to Dove for sponsoring today’s Gee Thanks! Substack; we love that you’re part of the fam!
These weird Wellness Formula pills that so many people recommended in my DMs: They remind me of the health food store in my hometown growing up, where everything smelled like celery. But when I told IG I was under the weather, people (including IRL friends) kept telling me to buy these. So I did! I’ll report back.
Old episodes of The Price Is Right on YouTube: One of the last things I did before leaving LA was go to a taping with my friend Lauren. I spent the entire time with sweaty palms, desperately hoping they wouldn’t call my name (I have terrible anxiety!). They didn’t call either of us, but they did seat us in the front row. I would much rather play from my couch and scream at the TV, which is exactly what I’ve been doing all week. Also, old doesn’t just mean the Bob Barker years. I love Drew Carey. He’s a real one. I’ll watch all his episodes.
Do you see me?
Do ya?
Soup: Highly recommend. Today’s was miso, yesterday I had ramen to clear my sinuses. It worked but then they clogged right back up. This jarred soup from Rao’s (Whole Foods has it) is good to have on hand. It’s a little saltier than Progresso, if we’re getting down to the nitty.
My favorite sleep mask: I’ve been sleeping during the day, and my Manta Sleep mask has come in clutch. I usually only break it out on long-haul flights, but it’s been perfect for sick days. It keeps all the light out, it’s adjustable, and I even have the little weighted eye inserts that keep everything cool and regulated.
Many say I will pull through this, but…jury’s still out. More later!

wellness formula is the GOAT! sorry you got hit with the nastiness that's been going around!
A) ughhhh, I hope you are on the upswing soon!
B) so, I was curious about "most popular purchase of 2025," especially after you mentioned the Theraface surpassed Maya. I was curious how you measure that! Is it total dollars spent with each item/brand? Total units? Is "Maya" every perfume size/variation vs just the one Theraface item (albeit in two colors)? Super curious over how that works!
