Fall into (the) GAP with me!
(Help! I've been in this hole forever!)
A few weeks ago, The Strategist declared: “The Gap is absolutely bangin’ right now.”
Once written off as the store your mom dragged you to for back-to-school jeans, Gap is making an unexpected (and very welcome) comeback for people who aren’t me (for me, it does not have to make a comeback, and this is neither a flex nor a brag, it is the opposite). In this economy, a brand that’s always having a sale is both welcome and exciting, and when it’s GAP, it’s also familiar. That feels important. There’s always been a sale happening at GAP. And at this point, it’s just plain old Americana.
The Strategist sang the praises of the ‘90s-style high-rise jeans and some shockingly sleek track pants. I have been singing the praises of its outerwear offerings and socks for as long as I’ve been doing Gee Thanks! I am excited to see the fashion editors find their way to GAP, as I am weirdly protective of it and its sisters Old Navy and Athleta (Banana Republic was never for me but I can appreciate that it does have a sort of RTO strength for more traditional work settings; in my early career it certainly was where I bought all of my silk chiffon shell tops). Remember, my Dress of the Year from Old Navy usually makes its appearance around mid-April! This year will be the 4th annual.
Anyway, whatever, I am protective about this family of brands because I never fell off the wagon, and now everyone’s like oh by the way the wagon’s officially cool again. WELL, I know. I’ve been here!
Right now GAP’s having a 40% off everything and 50% off dresses sale, a sale with a name that just rolls off the tongue like molasses. Here are some of the things worth giving a look during this sale:
This jacket (size down or you really look like you’re wearing a sleeved comforter unless that’s what you’re aiming for in which case, go forth!). So comfortable and chic, and doesn’t have any overt branding. Even on the inside there’s no collar brand tag; an interesting and not all-together unwelcome choice. I love it, and I am going to be wearing it through May.
Parker Posey is wearing men’s baggy carpenter jeans so I might just have to start (BOODIZM!! Are you watching White Lotus?). She’s also kind of wearing a Strega Nona shoe, so IDK, I’m feeling pretty good about it. I think it’s going to take me a few different size tries to get it right but if these are the pants that work best with my Streg shoes, then you better believe it’s the Spring of Caroline.
If you’re like, what is a Strega Nona shoe?, read this post:
The waist is making this dress for me. Also, wait, more Stregas?
22 colors of these mid-rise barrel jeans and I think the purple ones are calling me like a prayer. I told you last March that the barrel was coming back in and in 2025, the barrel stays in.
PS: Warby Parker has so many good styles right now and I’ve been trying to narrow down my wishlist from 11 pairs of sunglasses to just two. I got lots of good recs for fav Warby frames from Geezers which I put on stories the other day. What are your favs? Let me know! And thanks to Warby for sponsoring a Gee Thanks! newsletter!

Why am I like this: the minute I see clothing has numbers for sizing like 29, 30 and 31 I immediately say NO and skip. Does everyone just keep a measuring tape handy? Am I just a Zoolander simpleminded Simpleton who can only function with sizes like 12,14 and 16? Meeeep
What I need is for Old Navy to make these in black. I don’t normally buy things in multiple colors but I have all three of these and they’re so comfortable (there’s some stretch) and cool. Every time I wear them (or the ON barrel jeans with the horizontal panel on the side of the leg; also currently on sale) Youths compliment me on my outfit, which NEVER happens to me 😂😂
