Gel manicures that don't ruin your nails? It's possible.
Nora is here to break it down for you with a review.
Welcome to Good for the Geezer — a new series where some of our favs evangelize some of their favs right to your inbox. Just like OG episodes of the podcast! Want to hear new podcast eps (every Monday)? Here you go!
Our first issue of Good for the Geezer was Ammie Williams evangelizing her favorite eyebrow gel. Our second was Cooper Fleishman (THE Cooper!) giving us his tech editor expertise on Prime Day deals (now would be a good time to revisit that, since next week is Black Friday).
Now we have Nora McInerny on the Olive and June gel mani system that just dropped and caused quite a stir in the Facebook group after Nora IG’d about it.
SHOP || Right now you can get the kit for $85 (regular $126)
Take it away, Nora!
Let me start by saying this: I love to do my own nails. It is one of my weekly rituals to sit down (preferably cross-legged on the floor), remove my polish, clean up my cuticles, file and polish my own nails. I’ve been to great nail salons, but nobody does it like me.
I’ve dabbled in gel polish here and there (for some reason before I gave birth I thought a gel manicure was a necessity and got one when I was 39 weeks pregnant WTF), but the short-term results were not worth the long-term damage to my fingernails and back to regular polish I went.
When Olive & June launched, I was an early adopter lured in by the Influencer Industrial Complex. I bought dozens of polishes, and they were great! Their promise was 7-day chip-free manicures, which I was already getting because like I said, I am good at doing my own nails!
I’ve been using O&J for years now, alternating between CV (a perfect red) and CCT (a sheer neutral), but I didn’t run to get their new gel manicure set because why mess with a good thing and why risk the damage?
But! The Influencer Industrial Complex was whirring to life around me, and I was INTRIGUED by two messaging points: the peel-off basecoat option and the damage-free gel formula.
They sent me a gel set, and I got to work.
