I knew I was going to have to move. Here's what ended up on my "later" list.
And where you can get it.
This issue of the Gee Thanks! newsletter is sponsored by Walmart.
I didn’t grow up with a Walmart nearby, but when I was in LA, Walmart (specifically the Burbank location, IYKYK) became my happy place. Picture me, wandering the aisles and getting my steps in, ogling the home décor. The furniture! Plates! Office supplies! Hours could fly by—sometimes they did.
I’d constantly eye furniture and kitchen goodies, drooling over the Drew Barrymore Crock Pot in green (yeah, I bought one!!!) and tons of things I loved but couldn’t buy on account of needing room and places to put all of the things I loved (pesky details!).
So, naturally, as I do in every store I enter, every place I visit, I took pictures and stashed them in my Notes app for a magical future date called “later” (a classic Gee Thanks! move and one of the reasons Gee Thanks! became what it is — I started doing this in 2017!).
FYI, you can do this same practice from your phone or desktop, and I promise it’s just as fun!
When I moved back to New York, these saved pics and notes became my guide to my style vibe as I set up house in my new home. Now, with Walmart sponsoring our newsletter today, it’s the perfect chance to share the surprising, fabulous and interesting finds I’m still obsessed with from various categories of home decor — lighting, furniture, mirrors, trinkets, dishware, and more.
Changing out lighting fixtures is an easy way to switch up the vibe of your space (especially when you are renting!). I had something similar to this tiered rattan pendant in my last apartment in Brooklyn and the people who rented our place from us when we left loved it so much that they paid us extra to leave it behind for them. I added it to my “later” list once I knew I was moving back, and I am going to install it in my office soon. This one is $88 and ships fast!
Are you sensing a theme? This breezy side table with canning and shelving from the Better Homes & Gardens line is under $80 and brings a sort of “I own a very expensive summer home” energy to the function that I appreciate.
I love a wacky and wavy mirror, as you may remember from my apartment in Los Angeles. I love that Walmart carries this wavy mirror and that you can mount it to the wall or lean it against your vanity. I feel like wavy mirrors are about to have a moment the way gilded mirrors have had theirs. This is a great under $50 option from Walmart!
AND, I must tell you that my funky and plush wavy mirror (below) is avail at Walmart for less than half the cost I paid for it last year.
Sometimes you just need something cute, and this hand carved wooden tray does the trick. This is the kind of thing that gets put into my Notes App multiple times a week; I love decor! This method made me realize I wanted to buy lots of little pieces like this for my various tables and shelves, and seeing all the things I love in one place has helped me cultivate a cohesive vibe when I finally make my purchases. (I bought it; $15!)
I CONFESS: I’m 36 and I don’t even own napkins — unless you count paper towels, which, btw, you can also get at Walmart! — but I am having a fling with napkin rings. I love them. I love these ones the most. A respectable $31 for four rings. I guess it just occurred to me that Walmart also sells real napkins — look at these!
If you follow me on IG you know that I bought all new dishes for my move back to New York. I wanted something dark and unfussy, interesting but not expensive (I break dishes constantly, it’s almost kind of impressive), and when I found this 12-piece set via another influencer’s stories, I ordered it immediately. The deep bowls are especially perfect for ice cream and they can withstand tons of runs through the dishwasher.
Every time people come over and eat off of these dishes, they start asking questions. Where’d I get them? How much? Can you send me a link now so I can buy them?
You can shop like Gee Thanks! and make your own illustrious vibe lists using the Walmart app or Walmart.com for the best prices, every day, no matter what! Thank you Walmart for sponsoring the Gee Thanks! newsletter today!
