Every May I have a little ritual: de-pilling my sweaters before packing them away. It started in 2020 when I noticed my favorite knits looking a bit shabby but still full of potential for many seasons to come. I got myself a fabric shaver and got to work. Watching the pills disappear was oddly satisfying and definitely therapeutic. It’s the perfect sitting-on-the-couch-zoning-out-in-front-of-Vanderpump-Rules activity.
Once my sweaters and winter wear (I even do my coats!) are all de-pilled and looking fresh, I fold them and store them away. It’s a quick, satisfying task and my October self is so grateful.
A few years ago I upgraded from a $13 sweater shaver I found on Amazon to the slightly pricier but more aesthetic Nori Trim because I wanted something that could handle everything.

I’ve had my Trim for 2 years and I have only swapped the blade out once — and recently. The battery lasts a very long time, and it charges with a regular USB-C. No batteries, or special chargers that only charge one thing (and that you immediately lose).
Regularly using the Trim will extend the lifespan of your garments. Pills are a sign of fabric wear, and if left unchecked, they contribute to the material breaking down more quickly. Sweater shavers are also TREMENDOUS for making your couch look new if it's got some little pills in the fabric. One set of furniture in our house (cream colored, cannot be cleaned with water, yes we have children, never again on this upholstery choice) pills within a few months of use, so I do this regularly and it makes an enormous difference!
