Shark vs. Dyson? Well, they're both on sale.
My pick is the Shark and I'll tell you why.
Hey Geezers,
Happy Black Friday week. Wanted to address a Q that’s been in my DMs: “Hey I saw that the Shark is on sale. Is it better than the Dyson Airwrap?”
TLDR; Both are on sale, and my pick is the Shark.
When the Dyson Airwrap launched in 2018, people (rightfully) lost their minds. For awhile, the Dyson was untouchable, iconic, and priced like it knew it. Nobody else had the Coanda tech. All the dupes in the early years were loud, heavy, hot, and couldn’t hang, even if they looked the part.
Now it’s 2025, and Shark has the Flex Style for a third of the price, and it does the same job.
Below is everything Geezers should know if you’re snagging one or the other on Black Friday:
1. Shark’s performance is real with fast drying and actual styling power.
The airflow is strong enough to dry your hair (quickly) and style it, which was the magic of the original Airwrap. The FlexStyle matches that: fast, efficient, doesn’t fry your hair, and doesn’t require 45 minutes of arm strength. It wasn’t like this in their first competition piece, but it is now. WINNER: SHARK.
2. FINALLYYYYY: Barrels that don’t feel like knock-offs.
The Airwrap’s Coanda barrels were once the only ones that worked. Now the FlexStyle curlers actually auto-wrap your hair without the fan violently whipping strands around. Curls hold well (especially with product), and the learning curve isn’t nearly as steep as Dyson’s. I had the first iteration of the Airwrap and I never knew which curler I had until I put it up to my head and saw the hair choose direction. WINNER: SHARK.
3. It’s lighter than the Dyson. And easier to hold.
People don’t talk about ergonomics enough. The FlexStyle is lighter!!! It matters!!!!!! WINNER: SHARK.
4. Shark noise and vibration: not perfect, but manageable.
Okay. +1 for Dyson, which is quieter and has a more “luxury tool” hum. Shark is louder and sharper-pitched but still very normal in the “powerful blow dryer” category. Not a dealbreaker. WINNER: DYSON.
5. Dyson attachments feel more locked in.
The Dyson attachments feel expensive. Shark’s feel good but not luxury, but also not flimsy. Some reviewers say they wiggle a bit, but not in a way that affects performance. I’ve noticed this too; I also noticed I don’t really care. WINNER: DYSON.
6. Build quality: Dyson is luxe, Shark is durable.
Let’s be honest: Dyson feels fancier. But Shark feels sturdy, not cheap.
You’re paying for performance, not the aesthetic of a $600 tool. WINNER: I DON’T CARE, I JUST WANT SOMETHING THAT WORKS AND THEY BOTH DO.
