Which skincare tool is worth it? Here are my thoughts.

ICYMI, I make the case for ZIIP or NuFace, for LED and for a massage tool that stays cold 100% of the time — no fridge needed.

Hi Geezers!

This episode was recorded righttttt before the 2024 Presidential Election about a year ago, and we’re bringing it back from behind the paywall to make this a little easier for shoppers this holiday season.

In cast you missed this, we’re breaking down four MVP skin tools—what each one actually does, who they’re best for, and how to choose the right fit for your face.

November 2025 update: Three of the four are on major sale right now (codes below). For the CurrentBody LED red-light mask and ZIIP, 20% off is the best price you’ll see all year. No need to wait for Black Friday—this is the Black Friday price.

PS, this newsletter is sponsored by CurrentBody today because I have been recommending it non-stop for 3 years and they love the Geezers. My rec of the mask is not because they are sponsoring us; it’s the opposite. They were like, “jeeze, let’s throw her something, she’s like obsessed with us…”

Shop the tools in question:

  1. CurrentBody’s Red Light LED Mask (Series 1 or 2) (20% off with code GEETHANKS)

  2. The NuFace

  3. The ZIIP (20% off with code GEEZIIP)

  4. The TheraFace (use code GEETHANKS)

I’ve been a red-light mask devotee since 2023 and now I’m a ZIIP believer. ZIIP is a handheld that runs microcurrent (instant lift and sculpt) and nanocurrent (long-game repair vibes) through guided programs. Translation: you get the quick “snatched” look and steady tone and texture payoff without guessing your way through passes. Open the app, pick a routine (everything from lips, facelift, clear skin), and it talks you through 4–15 minutes with a video. Think of the ZIIP as a little computer, and your phone sends the modules directly to it, so it knows what to do once it hits your skin. I’m not a #WomanInSTEM, but this thing makes me feel like I could be.

In late September of this year I got a ZIIP treatment from founder Mel herself and when she did my eyes, people actually gasped. Then I met Cheryl of “If It’s Tuesday” and her before and afters (she showed me pics!) made me gasp. That’s the vibe: immediate, visible lift that still looks like your face, just more awake and less puffy.

And it’s not just about lifting. My biggest trouble spot is buildup of gunk in the creases of my nose. ZIIP is the first thing that’s actually helped there. I’ve tried all those sucking tools. The micro and nanocurrent plus the glide moves seem to loosen everything and get fluid moving so I’m not digging at my skin. I see less gross stuff around my nose creases and clearer-looking pores, and I don’t have to stomach painful extractions. My makeup sits better after, too.

How I use it: Just like the red light mask, I use it on clean, bare skin (no oils or SPF), apply generous conductive gel (ZIIP’s is great and code GEEZIIP gets you 30% off gels right now, but aloe-based conductor also works), light pressure, slow glides. The app will help create a menu for you to target specific skin concerns. Use it for 30 days and by week two, everyone is going to start to ask you what you’re doing differently.

Where my ZIIP fits with everything else: the LED mask is still my non-negotiable (hands-free, proven, soothing). ZIIP has fully replaced my NuFace. I reach for ZIIP because it gives me both immediate and longer-term results. And TheraFace is a fun, comforting tool, but there is no current (so no gel needed!). It’s a multi-temperature massage that feels great, helps de-puff, and is relaxing. I treat it as a feel-good add-on, not a sculpting step.

If you only want budget sculpt, NuFace is solid. If you want sculpt plus customizable programs (including acne-calming and redness-reducing options) and you’ll actually use them, ZIIP is worth it. And if you can only get one thing on this list of 4 tools, the LED mask is the one, because there’s no learning curve, and requires nothing extra.

With both of these tools, consistency is key. Neither are a one and done. It’s my LED mask for baseline skin health and smoother, brighter, bouncier skin and then my ZIIP for targeted results I can see.
