Gee thanks, just thrifted it!
One of my favorite ways to shop over the last five years — and I don't plan on slowing down. So what do I do with all of these dishes?
Hi Geezers!
Every time I visit my parents in the NYC suburbs, I take myself on a little “tour de thrift,” hitting up every Goodwill and secondhand shop within a 20-mile radius. I got seriously into thrifting in 2020 after moving to LA, where the stores were next-level—huge warehouses packed with other people’s old stuff. After a decade in New York, where thrift shops are small and fiercely picked over, it felt totally novel to have so much to dig through. It also made for a really fun pandemic hobby. Five years later, it’s still one of my favorite ways to spend a day.
Hot tip for the LA Geezers: Two of my all-time favorite thrift spots in LA are St. Vincent De Paul (210 N Ave 21, Los Angeles, CA 90031), just east of Elysian Park near Dodger Stadium, and the Goodwill Outlet in Glassell Park (3150 N San Fernando Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90065). I’ve found some absolute gems at both, like this authentic mid-century modern chair for $12 that can retail for $300-500 on eBay and the like.
I’m mostly on the hunt for things I love regardless of resale value —vintage cracker dishes with farm animals, hand-painted vegetable plates, and basically anything that screams charming and nostalgic and cottage-core. Vases! I love vases. I am also always on the hunt for furniture, and one of my best finds finally found me at the beginning of 2025.
Read more about it here:

Right now, my proverbial cup (or rather, my apartment) runneth over, and there’s not an inch of space left for even one more ceramic floral candlestick from the 1970s. I never set out to resell, but I’ve realized that the real thrill for me is the hunt, and I just can’t stop… even though most of my finds end up in a box, patiently waiting for the day I buy a house or finally build that shelf in which to showcase these treasures. Then I start daydreaming of opening a little shop somewhere so I can keep hunting and thrifting but keep myself from hoarding (slippery slope!).
My friend Jess Keys at Notes from Jess and I have this in common, which is how she began her new experiment starting Instagram auctions of her Parisian flea market finds (I helped her name it — follow @keysatthefleas for her next drop!)
I think I want to bring thrifting, and secondhand shopping into the Gee Thanks! universe. (!!!) No idea what it would look like. Maybe it’s selling my finds to you guys like Jess does, but maybe it’s also teaching you all of my tricks and knowledge I’ve picked up over the last five years so you can feel like you know what to look for when you go on your own.
It makes me excited to think about, which is exciting! Plus, it’s shopping! Which!!!!! We do here!!!!
Would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
PS. If you’re still debating getting the CurrentBody red light mask, I wanted to let you know that I am getting such fantastic feedback from the Geezers who bought and started using their masks around the holidays. And because CurrentBody is a longtime Gee Thanks! sponsor, we still have a discount on my Flagship (though the best deal comes on Black Friday). I recommend getting the Series 2. The Series 2 LED Mask delivers better coverage, more precision, and a flexible fit than most competitors, making it a standout choice in the at-home LED therapy market.
The Series 2 LED Mask includes Veritace technology, a unique feature that provides users with verified test results for their individual mask. Unlike many LED masks that claim wavelength accuracy within a certain range but often show inconsistencies, Veritace ensures that every LED in the Series 2 mask meets precise power and wavelength standards. This level of transparency allows users to see the exact performance of their mask, reinforcing confidence in the treatment's effectiveness.

I would LOVE if you did thrifted/secondhand stuff somehow!! I'm attempting to do a no-new-buy year (very small thing I can do to protest and deprive the corporate overlords)
I love this idea! I’ll take all the thrifting content (tips, tricks, thrift sales etc.) please and thank you!!
